Week 21: Banish Acne Scars

Welcome back wonderful people!
I know what you are probably thinking..... "Jess, where the hell have you been!?"
Now, I can sit here and give you a whole bunch of "excuses" as to why I haven't been updating my blog but I know no one likes excuses.  I know this is very selfish of me, but I am just trying to relax and enjoy as much of my summer as I can and I know that is rude of me so I will be trying my best to get back to my regular uploading schedule.

I have provided you with 6 pictures down below and the pictures on the left (snowflake pjs) were taken on Week 11, so exactly 10 weeks ago.  You can see in the before and after photos, the large scar on the right side of my chin as well as the scar above my upper lip is practically gone!  You can also see a huge difference in colour of my acne scars on the left side of my face near my beauty mark.
Looking at the pictures below, you can see a huge improvement to the right side of my face and how far my skin has come.  The only difficult thing about trying to fade acne scars (and I have said it before and I will say it again), that shit takes forever!! I'm sorry for cursing but honestly it does get exhausting sometimes because I have people coming up to me now saying, "Jess, what happened to your face?" and all I can think of is "Damn, you should've seen it 2 months ago."  That's probably one of the hardest things about acne and acne scars.  Many people aren't aware of the struggle that so many of us acne sufferers have gone through.  Mind you, it doesn't bother me when people comment on my acne scars because I have learned to embrace them.  However, this is a little PSA: You don't need to comment on someone's acne or acne scars because I can guarantee you, that person knows what the heck is on their face.  We all own mirrors and/or have seen ourselves in a reflection before.

I apologize for that little rant, but it has always been something that bothers me.  Moving on, I would like to quickly address the huge colour difference between my neck and my face in the pictures on the right.  I have been self-tanning recently and whenever I do apply it to my face it usually washes off that same day/night because of exfoliation and what not.  Besides that though, another great improvement on this side of my face.  The huge red spots on my chin are slowly starting to fade but I find that the chin is a difficult spot because there are new acne spots showing up so often, I find that once one has banished, another appears.  But what can you do right?

Week 20: Banish Acne Scars

Welcome back lovely people!
Here we are folks.. WEEK 20! Which means that I am now on my third Banish Acne Scars kit!  And by "kit" I am referring to their $69.00 system which comes with a roller (sized by choice; S, M, L, Pen), a serum, a cleaning container, and a handy little bag to store everything in.  Now, some of you may be thinking, "Jess, you're on your third roller!? How can I afford to spend that much money and you still have acne scars??"  Well, my answer to you is this.  If you have tried everything and are still suffering with severe acne scars then it doesn't hurt to try this product out.  In fact, you can even try reaching out to the company for maybe a free trial of one of their products?  It never hurts to ask!  Also, in regards to me still having acne scars, everyone is different.  I've read some reviews on the Banish Acne Scars website that have said they used the roller 3 times and all of their acne scars banished.  Others have said it has taken a while, and then you have me who is on her 3rd roller (used the roller 20 times now and I am still trying to get rid of my scars)! But, that is okay!  Because I can see that the product IS working, it just needs TIME.
Personally, I am so excited about to share with you these before & after pictures because they really are quite fascinating!  I'm sure you've heard of the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words."  That is exactly what I am going to let these pictures do; rather than talking about them, I want you to see for yourself the difference between Week 10 and Week 20!

Milk of Magnesia: Oily Skin's Friend or Foe?

Hello loves and welcome back!
Today we are going to be talking about a product that you may have lying around in your bathroom cupboard that is used as a laxative and how you can use it on your face!

Yes, you indeed read that correctly... we are going to be testing out a liquid medicine, that would normally treat constipation, on our faces.  Now before you click off because you're somewhat uncomfortable, read what I have to say and then be the judge!
The product that I am going to be talking about today is Milk of Magnesia or (MOM for short).  Offered in a variety of brands, Milk of Magnesia is a laxative (osmotic-type) that is thought to work by drawing water into the intestines, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines, ultimately making you go to the bathroom to do your "business."

Basically what Milk of Magnesia is said to do is to keep oily skin from producing more and more oil throughout the day and ultimately keep your face matte.  When I say matte I mean that your skin is not going to look dewy or shiny so if you're after that kind of finish, you won't like this product.  It is also not a product you want to try out if you have dry skin, as the Milk of Magnesia will cling to most if not all of your dry patches.

Application of the Milk of Magnesia is super easy too!  What you want to do is start out with clean skin and with either a standard foundation brush or a disposable cosmetic sponge, apply a thin layer of the liquid to your face avoiding the eye area, eyebrows, and hairline.  Make sure that you shake the bottle up really well before applying!  After it is applied, you will notice a white cast over the places you applied the product.  Depending on how much you applied, it can look very white, however, if you are applying foundation you will not need to worry about the cast.  If you aren't planning on wearing foundation, I'd suggest applying the product with a sponge and using as little product as possible.

One thing I want to stress is to not use this product on a day-to-day basis!  I cannot stress that enough here!  Yes it may seem like it is working wonders your skin right now (short-term) but it can have long-term side effects on your skin such as increased acne and contact dermatitis!  This is due to the pH of your skin and the pH of MOM.
So, to wrap this up.  Is the household laxative "Milk of Magnesia" oily skin's friend or foe?  Unfortunately I'd have to say it is more of a foe than it is a friend.  However, it can be used once in a blue moon (weddings, special occasions, etc.) to combat the skin's oily-ness but on a day-to-day basis it is not recommended.  As always though, I am not a doctor nor am I a dermatologist so be sure to do your own research and/or ask your doctor before you try anything relating to your body or skin.

Stay tuned for my next blog post and take care,
Glynn
