My Acne Story

To those who are reading,
hello and welcome to my blog!
If you haven't already guessed by browsing around or even looking at the title of my blog, this is my way of documenting my skin's "journey."  By "journey" I mean, this is my little way of documenting my skin's progress as I attempt to try and keep my acne at bay and diminish the look of my acne scars that have been left behind.  I will also be providing information, feedback, advice, tips, tricks, etc. along the way to whoever is reading.
All throughout high school (grade 9-12) my skin was pretty much clear, aside from the monthly PMS blemish or stress pimple during exam times.  It wasn't until my first year of university where the problems started to occur.  Now, here's my theory of why I think my skin took a turn for the worse:

1.  University was my first ever time actually living away from home (because my school was far away from my hometown, I lived on Residence) so therefore this caused some stress
2.  Living on residence meant that I'd have to buy a "Meal Plan" which is basically a shit ton of money on overly expensive fatty foods in cafeterias.
3.  If you've ever completed your first year of university/college you'd know that... that shit is tough work.  There are a lot of assignments and readings and it got very stressful very fast.
4.  Lack of sleep (due to school work and social life)
5.  Increase in caffeine which is definitely something you want to avoid if you can

Basically, university = no sleep = stress = lots of stress eating = poor health choices.

In my first year my acne really flared up and I had a bunch of pimples and small bumps which caused me to pick at them and pop them (which if you have active acne right now DO NOT do! It is so bad for your skin).  The summer after my first year I decided that I needed to do something about it because it really bothered me.  I tried out the Spectro Gel Cleanser for Blemish Prone Skin for about 4 months and saw little to no results.  I then tried the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which worked wonders on my skin but only for so long.  I have now found (what I think to be) my holy grail cleanser which is the Dove Beauty Bar.  Yes, you read that correctly... The white bar of soap that we all have probably used at some point in our lives as a body soap.  This little bar of greatness has helped in making my skin feel squeaky clean, smoothing out the texture of my skin, and even balancing my hormonal acne.  I have however read some mixed reviews on this soap but so far it has done nothing but wonders to my skin.
Other than what has been said, that is basically my story.  If you've browsed around my blog for a minute you would have noticed that I have been doing weekly updates on my progress using Banish Acne Scars! For those of you who are not familiar with this brand I will link you to my blog post explaining what it is all about (click here).  As for my active acne, it is no where near what it used to be like.  Nowadays I get the monthly PMS break-out, the stress breakouts, and/or the crappy eating breakouts.  My whole issue now is trying to fade the scars that were left behind from all the picking and popping I did as a teen (such a BAD habit and I do not recommend it to anyone! Take a look at some of my acne scarring photos and you'll see what I mean).
Anyway, I will wrap it up here because I have a ton of other informative acne related posts here on my blog so feel free to read up on those to get yourself caught up if you aren't already.  If you are new to the blog, then welcome to the family and I hope you all like it here! xo

Stay tuned for any updates and take care,
Glynn

  1. I use dermalmd scar serum to diminish my acne scarring. It even worked in fading very old (i.e.,15 years) acne scars I've had. If used immediately, my scars will go away within a week or so. I always have some handy.
